Inspirations for
EB parents

How God chooses a mom for a
child with special needs
by Erma Bombeck
Welcome to Holland
I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child
with a disability-to try to help people who have not shared that
unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel.
It's like this...
The most beautiful flower
A very special poem. Get the tissue

Parent's Rights
Parents of children with disabilities
have rights too... these 12 "Rights" are
taken from "Reach
Out and Teach", a parent's handbook distributed by the American
Federation for the blind.
Perfect Child?
After reading this, you will know how
truly 'perfect' our children are....

The following
quote is taken from
the
Down Syndrome for New Parents website
Professor
Jerome Lejeune, Nobel Prize Winner, Discoverer of the gene for
Down syndrome
"Many years ago, my father was a Jewish physician
in Braunau, Austria. On a particular day, two babies had been
delivered by one of his colleagues. One was a fine, healthy boy
with a strong cry. His parents were extremely proud and happy.
The other was a little girl, but her parents were extremely sad,
for she was a mongoloid [Down syndrome] baby. I followed them
both for almost fifty years. The girl grew up, living at home,
and was finally destined to be the one who nursed her mother through
a very long and lingering illness after a stroke. I do not remember
her name. I do, however, remember the boy's name. He died in a
bunker in Berlin. His name was Adolf Hitler."

Someone
who understands
A Storeowner
was tacking a sign above his door that read "Puppies for Sale."
The signs have a way of attracting children. Soon a little boy
appeared at the sign and asked, "How much are you gonna sell those
puppies for?" The store owner replied, "Anywhere from $30-$50."
The little boy reached into his pocket and pulled out some change.
"I have $2.37, can I look at them?" The store owner smiled and
whistled.
Out of the kennel came his dog named Lady, running down the aisle
of his store followed by five little puppies. One puppy was lagging
considerably behind. Immediately the little boy singled out the
lagging, limping puppy. He asked, "What's wrong with that little
dog?" The man explained that when the puppy was born the vet said
that this puppy had a bad hip socket and would limp for the rest
of his life.
The little boy got really excited and said "That's the puppy I
want to buy!"
The man replied "No, you don't want to buy that little dog. If
you really want him, I'll give him to you."
The little boy got upset. He looked straight into the man's eyes
and said "I don't want you to give him to me. He is worth every
bit as much as the other dogs and I'll pay the full price. In
fact, I will give you 2.37 now and 50 cents every month until
I have him paid for."
The man countered, "You really don't want to buy this puppy son.
He is never gonna be able to run, jump and play like other puppies."
The little boy reached down and rolled up his pant leg to reveal
a badly twisted, crippled left leg supported by a big metal brace.
He looked up at the man and said, "Well, I don't run so well myself
and the little puppy will need someone who understands."
The man was now biting his bottom lip. Tears welled up in his
eyes, he smiled and said, "Son, I hope and pray that each and
every one of these puppies will have an owner such as you."

Reaching milestones
by: Sheryl
Trowbridge
When a child
reaches a new milestone, the parents are happy and proud.
When a child with special needs reaches a new milestone, the parents
are happy and proud and they celebrate. They celebrate because
they have just witnessed a miracle, and they know it.
A child with
special needs has a harder time at achieving what other children
do so easily. A child with special needs has to struggle and work
hard just to be able to roll over. A child with special needs
may even need to be taught how to sit or to crawl. They need to
be taught, what comes so easily to other children.
As you watch
your child struggle for weeks, months or even years to reach a
milestone, you see the disappointment and frustration in his eyes
when he cannot do it.
As you watch
you child struggle with determination for weeks, months, or even
years to reach a new milestone, you see the excitement and the
pride when he finally does it.
You cry, you laugh, you thank God for giving you this special
moment that you will cherish for the rest of your life, and you
celebrate.
For you have
just witnessed a miracle, and you know it.

~ Your Cross ~
The young man
was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out, he dropped to his
knees in prayer.
"Lord, I can't go on," he said. "I have too heavy a cross to bear.
" The Lord replied, "My son, if you can't bear its weight, just
place your cross inside this room. Then, open that other door
and pick out any cross you wish."
The man was filled with relief. "Thank you, Lord," he sighed,
and he did as he was told.
Upon entering the other door, he saw many crosses, some so large
the tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning
against a far wall. "I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered.
The Lord replied, "My son, that is the cross you just brought
in."

problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and see what
other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far more
blessed than you imagined.**
