February 16th, 2002: Sea World

On February 16th, 2002 our plans took us to Sea World with all the other families. The only show we were able to watch was Shamu (Nicky watching above), and Nicky just loved seeing this "big fish" (as he called it) jumping and splashing everyone! We caught him several times clapping his hands and laughing, it was a hoot. Later that day we got him a 'plush' Shamu at one of the gift stores.

At around noon we followed everyone to the Shivers Pavilion behind the Shamu Stage for the families' Banquet. It was actually quite nice to just sit down and enjoy each other's company. Skylar (Nicky's soon-to-be stepsister) made friends with Angel, an adorable 11 year old with the same form of EB as Nicky, while I talked to some of the other parents. We sat next to Jean Campbell of DebRA while eating and we could not let her eat, Greg and I wanted to know all about the offices 2 miles from Ground Zero and about her day on September 11th. If you're reading this, Jean, it was nice to meet you and get a chance to talk to you. Afterward all the families took a picture like the one you see above. During the banquet Diane Abbott spoke and told us about the events for the future and how wonderful it was to be together.

After lunch we were free for a few hours, so I took Nicky on a boat ride on this funny looking swan-boat. Nicky just LOVED it! As usual he was scared at first, but when we were through he wanted to go again! He had a really good time and helped mommy steer the boat, ha ha.

After our boat ride we took Nicky to see the Dolphins. First we stopped by to see the baby dolphins at the small pond...

...then we stopped by the larger 'pond' so Nicky could feed the adult dolphins. Needless to say, he just loved the whole experience and even got to pet one of the dolphins!

Before we left the park that evening we had to grant Nicky one last request... earlier in the day he had seen this 'rainbow' cupcake and bugged us about it, but at the time we could not wait in line otherwise we would have missed Shamu, so on our way out we stopped and got him the cupcake! It was actually a 'patriotic' cupcake, just like the shirt he was wearing that day :-)

Some may own castles on the banks of the Rhine,
and hire an orchestra each morning at nine.
But richer than I they will never be...
I had a mom who made Web pages for me!

Just think how happy you would be if you lost everything you have right now, and then got it back again.
